IAA
The Immigration Assessment Authority (the IAA) is a separate office within the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
The role of the IAA is to conduct reviews of fast track reviewable decisions. Fast track reviewable decisions are those decisions made by the Minister for Immigration, or delegate, to refuse to grant a protection visa to a fast track applicant.

The IAA undertakes a limited form of merits review of matters referred to it. Generally, the IAA conducts reviews ‘on the papers’. This means that with limited exceptions, there is no hearing.
